For the spirited drivers, applying a lightened mass to the crankshaft axis greatly decreases the energy required to start the rotational inertia. This means easier start-ups, faster revving, and quicker shifts for the driver. Syms engineers their flywheels to reduce the weight on the outside of the flywheel disc to pursue optimum weight reduction that does not cause variations in engine rotation. The weight of the Syms flywheel is 11.15lbs (5.06kg) vs the 20lb OEM unit.
